CHRISTMAS SPECIAL with the Elf on the Shelf, Snowflake
Today is a special episode as it is the first episode ever of The Word On The Street where we have a special guest! Today I want to introduce you to my daughter, Sharni’s Elf on the Shelf, Snowflake.
Snowflake is an Elf on the Shelf, sent by Santa to spy on all the kids. Each night they have to report back to Santa on what they saw. If the kids are good they get a gift but if they are bad they don't get a present, or they get coal, a potato or no Christmas at all.
God knows everything because he made everything! The bible says that he knows how many hairs you have on your head. Did you know that most people have more than 100,000 hairs on their head, but God knows EXACTLY how many on every single person’s head. There are 7.4 billion people alive on earth and so do you know how many hairs that is altogether? I have no idea - it’s too many!!! Does anyone here know how to work that out??? God also knows when every person gets up each day and goes to bed at night. He even knows when every bird falls down. Did you know that there are possibly 400 billion birds on earth right now? And God knows about all of them!
BIBLE READING - Luke 12:6-7
“Five sparrows are sold for just two pennies, but God doesn’t forget a one of them.Even the hairs on your head are counted. So don’t be afraid! You are worth much more than many sparrows.”
BIBLE READING - Ephesians 2:4-9
“But God was merciful! We were dead because of our sins, but God loved us so much that he made us alive with Christ, and God’s wonderful kindness is what saves you. God raised us from death to life with Christ Jesus, and he has given us a place beside Christ in heaven. God did this so that in the future world he could show how truly good and kind he is to us because of what Christ Jesus has done. You were saved by faith in God, who treats us much better than we deserve. This is God’s gift to you, and not anything you have done on your own.It isn’t something you have earned, so there is nothing you can brag about.”
Jesus actually loves everyone. He took the sins of the whole world - everyone who had already been alive as well as everyone who was alive and all who were not even born yet (that’s us). That’s a lot of people and a lot of sins!
This forgiveness - we call it GRACE - is a gift. What do you do when you are given a gift? YOU RECEIVE IT. Just take it! Accept it! Say thank you. "This is God’s gift to you, and not anything you have done on your own. It isn’t something you have earned, so there is nothing you can brag about.”
God loves us very much. That is why we love Christmas so much. It’s because we celebrate Jesus Birthday at Christmas, when he was born in a stable and placed in a manger. Jesus is the best thing about Christmas!
Keep being different for Jesus through the holidays and we will be back with a new season in 2022!
Question time:
Spend some time together now, praying together to God, thanking God for all the blessings he has given you this year, asking him for things you’d like to happen next year, and saying sorry for your sins.
