Hi.

Welcome to The Word On The Street Podcast. My aim is to help you kick start God conversations with your kids through each episode, which will always include relevant stories, clear explanations and The Word of God.

God is RIGHTEOUS

God is RIGHTEOUS

God is Right. Correct. God is never wrong. He never makes the wrong decision.

Someone who is always right all the time is called righteous. Someone who is righteous will never have to say sorry to anyone, because they’ve never made a mistake or done the wrong thing. Who is righteous? God is righteous, and God makes us righteous by taking away our sins through Jesus on the cross.

But this episode is not about us and our righteousness, it’s about God and his righteousness.

When we were little, my sister always had to be right. She would say to my mum, “You obviously don’t know everything because you don’t know that I know everything!”

I like being right too. When I had arguments, I always liked to be the last person to say something. I had to rebut whatever anyone else said. Now Sharni is like that!

Obviously, we are wrong sometimes. Only God is never wrong.

Not only does God know everything, but he is right about everything too. Not only is his knowledge right, but his actions are right and his choices are right. They are just, fair, right.

Bible Passage: Psalm 145:17

“The Lord is righteous in all his ways and kind in all his works.”

What do you think?

Are you ever wrong? I will give you 2 statements, and you work out which statement is right and which statement is wrong

  • 3+2=4 OR 3+2=5

  • The capital city in Australia is Sydney. The capital city in Australia is Canberra.

  • This sound is a donkey. This sound is a cat.

  • You feel angry when someone wrongs you. You do not feel angry when someone wrongs you.

*With maths, there is always a right and a wrong answer. This is the case with a lot of things. Sometimes there is no wrong option. There is no wrong answer when choosing what career you want to do as an adult. If you ask God to make the weather sunny one day but he was planning on it being rainy but changed it just for you, that doesn’t mean one was wrong and the other right. Both answers can be right.

Being right can be hard though, especially when you are a boss. You have a teacher for a boss, or a parent. If you are a boss, you will know that it is hard!

My sister always wanted everything to be fair.

Have you ever said to your parents, “But it’s not fair!” That could be because your parents are trying to make the “right” decision, but sometimes there are many different right decision, and that one was not “right” for you.

Have you ever been punished for something you didn’t do? The teacher punished you and they were WRONG. It is hard being a boss and getting it wrong is very likely sometimes.

Story Time!

My friend Mel tricked her teacher, bit her hand and blamed it on the boy who always annoyed her. The teacher got the boy in so much trouble and the boy was very upset because he didn't deserve the punishment.

I do not know one person who is 100% right all the time. Parents can’t make everything right. Teachers can always be right. Police and judges and lawyers can’t be right all the time. But God is always right. But God is never wrong, he never makes mistakes and he always judges fairly.

If I ever disagree with God, then I must remember that I must be wrong and God must be right, because God is right!

Bible Passage: Deuteronomy 32:4

“The Lord is a mighty rock,

and he never does wrong.

God can always be trusted

to bring justice.”

God chose to destroy everyone in the world but Noah and his family in a big flood and that was right.

God chose to send plagues to Egypt, and that was right.

If I ever disagree with God, it means that I don’t really understand with my limited human mind, and that I need to just admit that I am not right, I don’t fully understand, and that I’ll try and trust Him because he is right.

Question Time!

  • Share a story of a time when you were treated wrongly by an authority figure, a boss.

  • If you are an authority figure or a boss, share a story of a time when you struggled to work out the right thing to do.

  • How do you feel knowing that God is perfectly right all the time?
