LENT & EASTER | Palm Sunday
Here are the bible verses quoted in today's episode:
Bible Passage: John 11:55-57
When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, many went up from the country to Jerusalem for their ceremonial cleansing before the Passover. They kept looking for Jesus, and as they stood in the temple courts they asked one another, “What do you think? Isn’t he coming to the festival at all?”But the chief priests and the Pharisees had given orders that anyone who found out where Jesus was should report it so that they might arrest him.
Bible Passage: John 12:12
The next day a large crowd was in Jerusalem for Passover. They heard that Jesus was coming for the festival.”
Bible Passage: Matthew 21:2-11
“Jesus told his disciples, “Go into the next village, where you will at once find a donkey and her colt. Untie the two donkeys and bring them to me. If anyone asks why you are doing this, just say, ‘The Lordneeds them.’ He will at once let you have the donkeys.”
So God's promise came true, just as the prophet had said,
“Announce to the people
of Jerusalem:
‘Your king is coming to you!
He is humble
and rides on a donkey.
He comes on the colt
of a donkey.’ ”
The disciples left and did what Jesus had told them to do. They brought the donkey and its colt and laid some clothes on their backs. Then Jesus got on.
If a king rode into town on a donkey it was a symbol of peace. Jesus is the Prince of Peace.
Many people spread clothes in the road, while others put down branches which they had cut from trees.
Palms and clothes spread were a sign of goodness and victory. A king might ride into a city like that after defeating an enemy. There is celebration because Jesus is a king and is good and is the winner over sin.
Some people walked ahead of Jesus and others followed behind. They were all shouting,
“Hooray for the Son of David!
God bless the one who comes
in the name of the Lord.
Hooray for God
in heaven above!”
When Jesus came to Jerusalem, everyone in the city was excited and asked, “Who can this be?”
The crowds answered, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.”
Bible Passage: Zechariah 9:9
Everyone in Jerusalem,
celebrate and shout!
Your king has won a victory,
and he is coming to you.
He is humble
and rides on a donkey;
he comes on the colt
of a donkey.
Bible Passage: Luke 19: 39-44
Some Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, make your disciples stop shouting!”
But Jesus answered, “If they keep quiet, these stones will start shouting.”
When Jesus came closer and could see Jerusalem, he criedand said:
It is too bad that today your people don't know what will bring them peace! Now it is hidden from them.”
Today's Questions:
Why did the people lay palm branches and their cloaks on the ground for Jesus?
Why do you think Jesus wept for the people who were doing these kind things?
What would you have done if you were there?
